Ghost Hunters Beach Distillery Investigation
by ghostmap

I caught the Ghost Hunters  segment where they did an investigation of the beach distillery. The owner of the beach distillery  met with the guys, and reported that guests has heard laughing in the lady’s room, saw chandeliers moving by themselves and heard voices in the hallways. Once the investigation they saw the funny business that goes on here. After seeing all this trickery, the guys still did a complete investigation. Jason was not happy and you could tell. After investigating, Jason and Grant met with the proprietor, told him there was zero evidence the  distillery was haunted, and asked him how come he did not tell them about the “trick devices” that were installed. The proprietor, who appeared to be laughing way too much in that segment, said he forgot to mention it. Forgot yeah right you fraud!

The history of Bloody Mary
by ghostmap

Bloody Mary.

Two simple little words, yet they are so full of meaning. This short post is going to help sort out Bloody Mary the child’s game and urban legend from the real life demonic force behind this story. “Mary Worth” and “Bloody Mary” came from a slight mix up of characters from history. Mary I, Queen of England, or Mary Tudor, who reigned during the Tudor period, was also commonly known as “Bloody Mary”. Her nickname of “Bloody Mary” became attached to her when she violently executed and burnt people at the stake for heresy throughout her 5-year reign as Queen of England.

She also was unable to have children and suffered two phantom pregnancies; this is why it is speculated that the variation involving chanting “I stole your baby” became tangled up with the legend.

There is another suggestion that the name “Mary Worth” was derived from a victim of the Salem Witch trials.

However like most things that we are unable to handle mankind uses a story to convey bits of truth and as time passes these stories get stretched a bit further with each telling. So here’s the real story of Bloody Mary.

First of all the name isn’t Mary it is Merihim a demon. A small cult worshiped this demon in hopes of warding off a pandemic of disease. This cult tried to force Merihim to manifest by performing a raja-tama enriched ceremony that required mirrors, candles goat blood and a chant I will not list here. The ritual was nearly completed when Merihim awoke and if you know anything about demons they only like to manifest of their own accord. Merihim began lashing out with a plague hitting the cult members one by one till they died in pools of their own blood filled vomit. The “high priest” saw what was going on and used a stone to shatter the center mirror right before the ceremony was complete forever allowing Meriham to partially manifest from inside any mirror of his choice but unable to self manifest until somebody completes the ceremony.

So over the years it went from Merihim to bloody Merihim and finally bloody Mary.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium Ghosts
by ghostmap

Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a site that will come up 99% of the time when talking about ghosts and haunted locations. Located in Louisville, KY this is a spot that a great deal of the info you think you know is incorrect so I present to you the real truth about Waverly Hills Sanatorium it’s ghosts, hauntings and even maybe a bit about shadow people.

During the 1800s and early 1900s, America was ravaged by a deadly disease known as tuberculosis. Louisville, Kentucky had one of the highest tuberculosis death rates in America from this contagious plague. Waverly Hills opened in 1926 and was billed as being the most advanced tuberculosis sanatorium in the United States even though most of the patients still perished from this terrifying plague, for which no cure yet existed.

Some of the treatment methods created at Waverly Hills in order to search for a cure were as bad as the disease itself. The worst of these barbaric methods was having balloons surgically implanted in the lungs and then filled with air to expand them needless to say only a few ever survived this “cure”. Patients who were lucky enough to have survived both the disease and the treatments left Waverly Hills through the front door, however the majority of Waverly Hills patients left through what came to be known as the “body chute”. The body chute was an enclosed tunnel for the dead led from the hospital to the railroad tracks at the bottom of the hill. Using a motorized rail and cable system, the bodies were lowered in secret to the waiting trains. This was done so that patients would not freak out after seeing  how many people were leaving the hospital as corpses instead of “cured”. Legend say’s an estimated death toll at Waverly Hills is about 63,000(by a ghost) the number is closer to 6300.

By the end of the 1930s, tuberculosis cases were on the decline across the United States.  In 1961, Waverly Hills was shut down but was re-opened a year later as Woodhaven Geriatrics Sanitarium. Budget cuts in the 1960s and 1970s led to both horrible conditions and patient mistreatments and in 1982, the state closed the facility for good.

By far the most haunted spot at Waverly Hills Sanitarium is the fifth floor. This floor was where the violent and insane patents were kept. Although disease did take many life’s at Waverly Hills on the fifth floor tuberculosis was actually the third leading cause of death behind Suicide and Murder. A great deal of fifth floor patients just couldn’t handle seeing all the death around them and not knowing when it would be coming for them so they would jump to there death from the windows or they would slice their wrists with eating utensils.

The fourth floor has the least violent ghosts and in fact a few doctors even haunt this floor as if they are still making rounds to visit their sick patents (A lot of people call these doctors shadow people when they appear because sometimes there white coats seem black). This is a popular hangout for those who had experimental “cures” because this floor will lead you to the “sun room” where patents lungs were exposed to ultraviolet light to try and stop the spread of bacteria.

I didn’t catch the ghost’s name but he said he worked here and  he asked me to pass a message unto his Son. Hey said “Sell Charlie and Tina, Sell!” not sure what he ment but I promised to pass that along.

Ouija board’s
by ghostmap

The Ouija board is frequently a issue that arises whenever I have a conversation discussing ghosts. Are Ouija boards evil? Do Ouija boards work? These are the more common inquiries. I’ll try to give you an understandable response  based on my experience in the paranormal.
I do not think that the Ouija board is really any more evil than your phone is. Pretend you’re in the USA and a friend is in France. You are able to start a conversation just by calling his telephone number and hoping he will pick up on the other end. Although this is a great deal more clear than getting hold of a spirit or entity through some device, the concept is not that far off. This does nonetheless, face the first flaw of employing the Ouija board.
Now imagine that you do not have a telephone number to contact your friend. You pick up the telephone, dial an area code in his proximity, and then dial seven random numbers. You might be on the correct track with the area code, but other than that it’s a matter of luck. Your probability of contacting him are almost none. You’re most likely to get hold of somebody on the other end that has no idea who you’re searching for but is friendly. You might even encounter somebody who’s furious with your phone call and is very unaccommodating. The least likely is getting hold of somebody that will search for you and intend you harm.
Now employing the Ouija board  is a great deal like this in that most people have no way to direct questions to anybody particular. Even if contact is made, there’s no actual way to determine that it really is who they claim to be. Therefore asking for anybody who answers to communicate with the user.
Possibly the greatest danger of employing the Ouija board is the negative stigma that’s been connected to it. With all the tales of animated Ouija boards and summoning of evil, it would be just about impossible to have a clear mind and positive thoughts during use. As with any aspect of existence, whenever you deal with negativity, you’ll find more negativity.
There’s no power unique to the Ouija board. The claims made by users are no different than claims made by mediums and spiritualists for centuries. The Ouija board isn’t necessary to achieve spirit communications, simply it will focus the users thoughts and concentration on the matter.

Haunted location of the week Hoover Dam
by ghostmap

Construction on Hoover Dam began in 1931 and it created reservoir behind the dam called Lake Mead. The dam was completed in June 1933 and 112 deaths associated with its construction. There are rumors that some of the dams workers bodies are forever trapped inside the dam however as far as I know this isn’t the case the bodies were all recovered and given proper burials

The ghosts who haunt the dam are the type I hate to deal with and anybody who is sensitive to paranormal events should avoid the dam. I’ve only been to the Dam twice and I have vowed never to return because it would violate my #1 rule of dealing with ghosts which is never have any contact with ghosts who do not realize they have died

The men who died here must have been financially despite because as far as I can gather a lot of them were afraid of heights yet worked high up on the dam before falling off and dying just so they could attempt to support their families. The most haunted location of the dam is near the canyon wall just across from the escalator for some reason ghosts tend to hang out here tearful blubbering something about a dog and cursing truck drivers this actually freaked me out because it made me wonder if it was possible for a ghost to get sunstroke or if I’m missing something.

While I do find the dam to be a miraculous accomplishment it wasn’t worth the cost of even one of those 112 lives that it took. If you do go to Hoover Dam just be careful and if you are able to communicate with ghosts DO NOT ENGAGE these ones or you more than likely will be sorry you did.

The Winchester Mansion, San Jose, California
by ghostmap

Sarah Winchester, a affluent widow, constructed the one hundred sixty room Victorian Winchester mansion in 1884. It embodied such an unprecedented task that construction workers worked on the home 24 hours a day 7 days a week for 38 years. TheWinchester Mansion has many eccentric features, built to shut out evil spirits, including fake doors, a room constructed just to hold séances in (where Sarah claimed the building plans that ghosts sent to her were came from) and a staircase that goes to the ceiling, and many supernatural happenings have been said to have happened in this location.

Sarah Winchester reportedly spoke to spirits of those killed by winchester guns every night at midnight and since then people have reported organ music in the Blue Room where Sarah died, apparitions, cold spots, a smell of chicken soup in the kitchen, red balls of light and more. Nowadays visitors can take tours of the mansion (including special nighttime flashlight tours).

I visited this house and yes it is haunted but the only ghost there is that of Sarah Winchester and she isn’t skilled enough yet to voice her presence so I believe most of the supernatural occurrences  actually are hoax’s or natural explainable occurrences.

Ghost Hunting Tools
by ghostmap

The following is a list of gear that people use while investigating paranormal activity. There’s just about no method to determine what piece of equipment will detect strange activity during an investigation, or when this activity will actually occur. Makes you wish they would make a “Ghost Finder Tool” then again because I can see them I kind of am that tool.

Audio recorders – Used for capturing “EVP”, or electronic voice phenomenon. EVP essentially consists of voices or other sounds that come out on the tape, but weren’t audible at the time of the investigation. The hypothesis is that these vocalizations and sounds have a basis in the paranormal

Note: The objective is to capture unexplainable phenomenon, and to eliminate anything that may be naturally explainable. Voices of investigators, rustling from passing feet, distant noises such as automobiles, airplanes, mechanical noise from the recorder itself – these are all examples of things that must entirely be eliminated prior to any conclusion can be made of an actual occurence of EVP.

Cameras – This had better actually be the starting point for any paranormal investigation. Many times objects will show up on film that wasn’t visible to the eye when the photo was taken.

Compass – A compass may be employed as a inexpensive alternative to an EMF meter. Unfortunately, while the EMF meter is a scientific intstrument designed for the purpose of detecting and measuring these types of magnetic field disturbances, the use of a compass is a far more random way for measuring such activity.

EMF meter – Once again, all anomalous activity is believed to be composed of, created by, or associated with some form of measurable energy. EM, or electro-magnetic energy is purported to be one of these types of energy.

Flashlights – Just one of the common sense tools to carry on any investigation. Carry one just in case, but also think about all the reasons not to use it, not the least of which is all the pictures and video frames that it will show up on, leading to possible false-positive evidence.

Thermometers – Thermometers of both the non-contact and ambient varieties are useful in identifying rapid temperature changes and cold spots, two types of phenomenon associated with paranormal activity. While non-contact thermometers are quite useful in detecting temperature drops on the horizontal plane 360° around the investigator, and perhaps at a trajectory of as high as 30-35° from horizontal, they are far less useful indoors, and almost worthless outdoors at a trajectory of above 40° from horizontal. Indoors, the non-contact thermometer will be almost completely unable to pick up on the ambient air temperature of a room, and will only register the average temperature of the closest solid surface directly in front of it. Outside, when aimed above 40° from horizontal, they will register false positive cold numbers that can dip as much as 50° below ambient, sometimes more. It is unknown why this phenomenon occurs, but non- contact thermometer users should be wary of these severe limitations.

Video cameras – Some video cameras are sensitive to infrared light and are able to pick up anomalous activity that is not visible to the naked eye. Also, still pictures are useful for stop-action, but motion video can aid in the identification of unknown activity as natural or anomalous.

Palace Theatre Manchester, New Hampshire
by ghostmap

I visited the historic Palace Theatre Manchester, NH back in April of 1998. It’s a beautiful building located on Hanover Street, in the heart of historic downtown Manchester, NH.  Some of the claims that employee’s and visitors have made about the Palace Theatre include people hearing moaning seemingly out of nowhere, an employee turning the water off only to hear it go back on after leaving the room, and even an employee who walked into a room and was trapped there for three hours after the door shut by itself and wouldn’t budge.

I didn’t personally experience any of these events however there are three ghosts who haunt this location. The first ghost I would like to talk about is a wannabe stage actor named Paul. Paul auditioned many times for various productions that were at the Palace in his youth however he never got a part. His dream crushed Paul committed suicide in his home by hanging himself in his home but his love for the stage has drawn him to the Palace where he has been  putting  on his one man show afterhours ever since.

Cliff is a ghost who is responsible for the practical jokes that occur at a few spots in Manchester including The Palace Theatre.  The final ghost wouldn’t talk to me but she is the ghost of a preteen girl. I don’t know much about her but she is the angry one of the three who enjoys breaking things.

This location is a wonderful spot to help you to get familiarized with the paranormal because I feel that as far as haunted locations go these ghosts are extremely mellow and don’t really pose a threat to your physical wellbeing.   So suit up and head to The Palace Theatre 80 Hanover Street Manchester, NH 03101 USA just be sure to keep an open mind and let us know about your experiences.
