World Trade Center Ghosts
by ghostmap

I know it might seem a bit tacky or in bad taste to talk about but The World Trade Center and investigating “ground zero” but it is a hot bed of paranormal activity and has many ghosts. The ghost are crawling all over the place because of the tragic and sudden way they passed.
When I even just think about the World Trade Center my mind gets heavy with feeling and after a few minutes I am almost to the point of passing out. I can just imagine what would happen if I were to actually visit the ghosts at ground zero. I hope the day never comes where a ghost hunting show is granted permission to investigate the site because I believe some spirits deserve a break and we should respect those who died on September 11th 2001 because it’s the right thing to do.
I’ve heard stories about Chip Coffey, John Edward and other medium’s taking money to do readings for family members who lost loved ones on that day and I think any medium who charges anybody especially these people money should be flogged. Please respect the spirits and more importantly have respect for the living loved ones the left behind.

***EDIT** Now that Osama has been taken care of I’m sure some of these people can move on but with death we never know how or when it will happen. The only certainty is we will leave someone who we care about behind. Please stay safe this September 11th

I never really thought about it but I can see now that if anywhere would be haunted The World Trade Center should have a lot of ghosts.

  • Chris says:

I’ve actually worked at ground zero and I know for a fact that the World Trade Center is haunted. I’ve seen mists and a lot of strange things and the only thing that can explain it would be that the World Trade center is full of ghosts.

  • Tammy says:

I loved this post about the possibility of a haunted world trade center. I lost a family member on September 11th and I’ve visited the World Trade Center many times and I felt like his ghost was at the world trade center trying to bring me peace.

I remember when the World Trade Center fell it was one of the worst moments in United States history. I’ve seen a lot of mediums take advantage of people’s feelings about 9/11 and the spirits at the World Trade Center and I’m somewhat surprised by your post. It’s actually refreshing to see someone in your field condemning charging to speak with the ghost of a lost loved one. Thank you and I’ve now bookmarked your ghostmap website.

World Trade Centers will always be SEVERELY haunted!! You can’t have that horrific and mass amount of death and nothing happen.

  • John37 says:

  • Bruce says:

I would love to see Ghost Adventures check out the ghosts of the World Trade Center

  • Getmemore says:

I still can’t go near the world trade. The spirits are to strong

  • Casper says:

I come from NJ and have to take the WTC train all the time to get to the city.
I moved here recently and was not here for the attacks. I visited the site last year for the first time. My friends and I went at night. We kept walking and walking. I had no idea where we were when suddenly this feeling came over me so powerfully that I felt like I was riding a fast elevator that was going down. Instantaneously ,one of my friends walking ahead of me says “We’re here.”

Jerry E. Spivey, World Trade Center, New York, New York, September 11, 2001

I started with my present job on February 14, 1973, the company was located at 1 Liberty Plaza — the Twin Towers were just across the street and were still under construction. The firm moved into One World Trade Center in 1981 occupying the 56th thru the 59th floor. Almost from the very beginning of entering that building I felt something very eerie, back then I was working 9:00 to 5:00. At home during the night I was having nightmares about terrorist in black uniforms running rampant throughout the building with machine guns killing everyone that moved, and as usual, when they confronted me I was always cowering in the men’s room. They would always find me but, before I’m shot and killed, I would wake up! These dreams were happening to me constantly, like a movie that keeps repeating itself. The department I work in has three shifts, it’s a 24 hour department in word processing. The third shift operators always complained that ghost sightings were quite common almost on a nightly basis. I would find that to be very true once I started the midnight shift years later. Much of Manhattan buildings were built on Indian burial ground, African burial ground, Dutch burial ground etc. I truly believe that the World Trade Center was built on some burial ground, the building was not land filled like the World Financial Center close by.

The first bombing happened on February 26, 1993. I was washing my face in the men’s room when the explosion happened. Immediately I knew it was a bomb because of the acoustics of the men’s room. I ran out into the corridors toward our department and announced that I heard explosions. The lights were going off and on until finally we were in total darkness for about three minutes. When the lights came back on, we saw billows of black smoke rapidly racing toward us. Within seconds we were engulfed with black smoke hardly able to see the person next to us. We ran for the stairways to exit the building. It took two hours to vacate the building back then. The parking attendants that I knew died that morning.

I was promoted to supervise the midnight shift years later and the amount of ghosts that I witnessed is too many to report in this article. However, I will write about a few that are very interesting. One night we hired a temp from a temping agency, this was her first night in the World Trade Center and she knew nothing about our famous ghosts. At about 3:00 A.M., she asked to go the ladies room. The corridors in the Trade Center were about a half block long in either direction and to get to the ladies room one would need to walk midway the corridor, turn left at the corridors intersection, and walk about half that corridor. When the temp began her journey to the ladies room she immediately noticed an old gentleman walking toward her at the far end of the corridor. It was common for attorneys, paralegals, or secretaries to work through the night so seeing someone at 3:00 A.M. is not unusual. However, when the temp entered the corridors’ intersection and made a left turn, she noticed the same old man walking toward her in that direction! I heard a scream and ran to meet her. She was frozen with fear, trembling, and trying to speak. I tried to console her and ask what had happened. She finally calmed down when I explained to her that the World Trade Center is famous for its ghosts! The old gentleman she saw was a partner from the firm who died some years earlier. When her confidence came back, I took her to the firm’s library and showed her a picture of the partner. Upon seeing his face she became hysterical and ask for a cab voucher to leave, she never came back!

Another event with a deceased firm’s partner was when one deceased partner woke up two staff members at the same time occupying two different offices. Back then the night staff would find a cozy couch in one of the attorney’s office and would take a nap during their lunch break. The deceased partner somehow entered their dream and shouted at them, simultaneously, to “Get out!” Both girls woke up at the same time and vacated the offices. They ran into each other and discovered that the same partner at the same time reprimanded them while they were dreaming.

On September 11, 2001, at 5:00 A.M. I encountered four ghostly spirits. Staff members that were more clairvoyant would witness one or maybe two spirits nightly, its very unusual to witness four spirits in one night or in rapid formation. I must add that before arriving to work that evening I was having a spiritual warfare that was very unusual. The four spirits that I encountered on September 11th appeared from my left side first and in fast motion they walked to my right-hand side and disappeared. The supervisors station was far from the staff so no one witnessed the apparitions with me. When the ghostly spirits disappeared at my right side, I turned to my right-hand side and asked the spirit if it was my Guardian Angel, hoping that no one heard me. The next supervisor was to replace me at 8:30 A.M. As a custom, I would have completed my daily report to the next supervisor and leave. However, this morning I was unusually clumsy. I couldn’t get anything right and the succeeding supervisor was laughing at my awkwardness. Then at 8:45 A.M. we were hit hard. We were on the 59th floor when the first plane crashed into One World Trade Center. The force of the plane knocked me back toward the shelves and the staff and I waited for the intercom’s announcement from the building to report a bombing (or something), and to evacuate the building. But no one alerted us that we were hit by planes! Then, I began to visualize the building collapsing and in desperation I ran into the middle of the room and announce to the staff to immediately leave the building. I was somewhat hysterical. I envisioned the building collapsing on the same side the plane hit and told the staff members to follow me toward the middle stairway. My staff members were out of the building and far away when the building collapsed. However, I stayed in the building to help evacuate more staff members. Finally, upon checking the offices to ensure they were empty, I was prompted again to leave the building by my friendly spirits. Now, back in 1993 it took two hours to vacate the building and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t caught in the stairway when nature calls, so I entered the men’s room (just in case). This time it only took one half hour to vacate the building because the terrorist hit the building before most workers could arrive (thank God)! Unfortunately, I saw the brave firemen and policemen that would lose their lives that morning. I further witnessed body parts in the plaza, unbeknownst to me the second plane hit while I was vacating the building. I was about five minutes out of the building when Two World Trade Center collapsed, blocking all exits from One Trade World Center. I always give God praise for the spirits I saw at 5:00 A.M. that morning, because they stayed with me and insured that my staff and I were safely out of the building. Only one person from our firm died that horrible morning. However, many of my friends from other firms did not make it out of the building.

Friends that live in Manhattan stated that they saw the first plane flying very low, but when it reached One World Trade Center, it moved up and hit around the 80th floor. News report stated that it was his intention to hit as low as possible to ensure the building collapsed. If he had maintained his position, many more lives would have been taken that day, including staff members and myself. We wonder why God saved so many yet others died?

To all that died sept 11th 2001 we miss you and will never forget.

  • Michael says:

To think that WTC is not haunted is just plain insane. Wether there are positive or negative spirits is completely out of point. I lost a great great uncle in the wtc7. My theories of who and why the wtc was attacked is also not up for discussion. The case in point is that WTC will always be the most active spot in the nation other than Eastern state pen and pearl harbor. Men and women died needlessly at the hands of cowards who wave their freedom of speech around like its theirs to begin with. We live in a nation that at the highest of times and lowest of circumstances, our country will always be number one. Can’t say so much for the middle eastern countries who thought they can break our streak of being the best in all we do. For 200 some odd years, our men and women in uniform all around the world have protected our country and communities from harm. I wonder who is protecting afghanistan? Oh, that would be us since they can’t do their own work. It really angers me to know that we are depended on so much but for one day of hell, all we asked was for some help from other nations and other nations failed to respond. Now, we are in haiti cleaning up a country ravaged by a corrupt govt and a devastating earthquake, we are in a afghanistan and Iraq but who is protecting us? who will protect us the next time we are attacked..when? could be in the next second..the next minute..the next hour ect..but for every fallen hero on 9/11..they didnt see things that way. They were prepared and died with pride. The least we can do and honor their souls…wether they are active or not.

  • Ame says:

There is nothing tacky about it.We need to explore so we really know what goes on in the world.I read the WTC has haunted before 9-11,now it must really be.It’s a place the workers loved and are familiar with. Not surprized they would want to stay.
After the new Freedom Tower is built,it will probably be very active.

  • Martinely says:

I was at Ground zero 3 years ago. It is haunted… big time. Have to go back to NY every summer for work. Never going near the WTC again. Too intense.

  • Carol says:

I’ve always known that the WTC site would be haunted, those people died a horrible death. Any paranormal investigator knows that a place that experiences such a tragic event as 9/11 will be haunted. The Freedom Tower IS going to be quite active, there is no doubt in my mind. There is nothing tacky about a paranormal group going in to investigate this site; it wouldn’t surprise me if tenants in the new building invited them there. I get the strong feeling that some of their ghostly encounters will not be pleasant, that there will be strong residual hauntings relating to 9/11 itself. I don’t think I’d want to work in the Freedom Tower, put it that way.

  • John says:

According to the reknowned psychic, Nancy Bradley, there is no paranormal activity at Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. The spirits of the deceased crossed over shortly after the towers collapsed.

  • nancy says:

Okay, it never fails…a bunch of under 30 year olds who have very little clue about what the world is really about (hey, when you get 50, you guys will understand) post total nonsense and think that “you” have the “total” knowledge and authority on explaining phenomenon that is outside of your minds ability to decipher events and situations that our outside your comprehension or cannot be explained by what you were taught by your narrow minded professors in college. I know, I was an anthropologist. But trust me, as soon as Ground Zero is accessible to the public, Grant and Jason from Ghost Hunters (TAPS) should be given full access not to mention Duke University’s Parapsychology department for a comprehensive investigation. I believe these souls would like to be heard since their lives were cut so short. Sorry guys to be so critical but I know that most people that post on sites like this are under 30 and I have more experience and years under my belt that you guys may want to listen to. Thanks Nan

  • Lindsay says:

What does being under 30 have to do with anything? I know PLENTY of close-minded people of ALL ages.

  • Jenna says:

The Word Trade Center is a paradox.Even though people died on the sight, they will return after the new Tower is built.I hope the doubters finally realize ghosts are real and around us everyday though we might not know it.One thing I want to point out is ghosts are not orbs, ghosts have bodies but you can’t see them on a regular basis because they are in a different dimension.I have seen ghosts in old battle fields and my friend’s house.Anyways they have to force themselves through the dimensional divide for you to see them. They are on a higher frequency not a an energy as some people think.

  • Jenna says:

John,I don’t trust psychics. They tend to use too much of their own subjectivity or belief system to interpet what they want to interpet. Also psychics may tend to be new agers and many people fall for it because it sounds simple and a bit fluffy.

  • Quinn McCoy says:

I actually went to the World Trade Center recently after the sight was cleaned up and that’s actually the reason I am posting this I was trying to see if anyone else had an experience when I went there I could’ve swore I heard the whine of an airplane then the sound of an explosion I couldn’t tell if it was my emotions running high or I really had a paranormal experience either way it really scared me and I haven’t been to the site since if anyone else had a similar experience please reply back it still scares me to this day to think about it

  • Jay says:

I visited NY 2 years after the 9/11 attacks and I felt quite uncomfortable around the WTC site. When in the viewing platform (previously where the bridge connecting the WFC to the WTC) in the Winter Garden, I felt like there were thousands of people watching me from Ground Zero. I’m unsure if that was purely because I knew the story attached? I did catch something on tape with my video camera however, I was filming on the spot where 6 was and when watching the tape back, the picture crackles and goes slow-mo for a few seconds and the unmistakable sound of a large explosion is heard. Quite strange!
